Facial Swelling in Dogs: Sonny's Story

Case Study: Sonny’s Journey to a Happy, Swelling-Free Smile

Meet Sonny, a 9-year-old Boykin Spaniel who recently visited our clinic with a noticeable facial swelling. The swelling was concentrated around his upper 4th premolar, prompting concern from his loving family.

Facial Swelling: Diagnosis and Treatment

Upon examination, we discovered that the swelling was due to a cyst involving the tooth. This finding led us to perform a tooth extraction and surgically remove the cyst lining. To ensure a precise diagnosis, we submitted a biopsy of the cyst lining for histopathological analysis.

The biopsy results confirmed our initial suspicion: it was indeed a cyst. This was a relief for both Sonny’s family and our veterinary team, as it could have been an abscessed tooth or even a cancerous oral tumor. Identifying the swelling as a cyst meant that we could proceed with confidence in Sonny’s treatment and recovery plan.

A Successful Recovery

Two weeks later, Sonny returned for a re-check. We’re thrilled to report that he is now free from facial swelling, and most importantly, he’s happy and pain-free. Seeing Sonny back to his playful and joyful self has been the best outcome we could have hoped for.

Sonny’s case highlights the importance of thorough veterinary dental care and the joy of positive outcomes. We’re grateful to have been a part of his journey to recovery and for the opportunity to restore his healthy, happy smile.
