Feline Chronic Gingivostomatitis (FCGS)

Feline Chronic Gingivostomatitis (FCGS)

FCGS is a disease of the oral cavity in which the immune system overreacts to plaque on the teeth. Another common name for this is Lymphocytic Plasmacytic Stomatitis (LPS) which is based on the cell types that are seen in a biopsy. Medical therapy may provide relief of the symptoms but it is often temporary. Most cases require selected, partial or full mouth extractions to provide the best chance of resolution of the clinical signs. Some cats require long-term medication (immunosuppressive and pain medications) after surgery to remain comfortable.
