Gigi’s Dental Adventure: The Tale of a Playful Poodle with a Dislocated Tooth

Meet Gigi

Gigi is a lively, 1-year-old standard poodle who loves playing with her housemate. One day, during an especially energetic play session, Gigi and her friend collided, leading to a rather surprising and painful situation – a dislocated tooth!

The Unexpected Accident

After the collision, Gigi seemed uncomfortable, and her owner noticed that something was off with her mouth. Concerned, they brought Gigi to our clinic for a thorough examination. We used a cone beam CT scan and full mouth radiographs to get a clear picture of what was happening.

The Diagnosis

The scans showed that Gigi’s upper right second premolar had been dislocated partially into her nasal cavity – ouch! It was clear that the tooth needed to be removed to avoid further complications.

The Treatment Plan

To help Gigi, we carefully planned an extraction procedure. Our goal was to remove the tooth without causing any additional issues. We especially wanted to prevent an oral-nasal fistula, which is a connection between the mouth and nasal cavity that could create ongoing problems.

The Procedure

  1. Tooth Extraction: We gently and precisely extracted the problematic tooth to ensure no fragments were left behind.
  2. Careful Closure: We then meticulously closed the extraction site to promote healing and prevent any abnormal connections between the oral and nasal cavities.\

Gigi’s Recovery

The good news is that the procedure went smoothly, and Gigi is expected to recover quickly. For now, she’s on a soft food diet to help her mouth heal properly. We’ll keep an eye on her to make sure there are no signs of infection or other issues.

Tips for Pet Owners with Playful Dogs

  • Supervised Play: Keep an eye on pets during playtime to prevent accidental injuries.
  • Quick Action: If your pet gets hurt, especially around the head or mouth, seek veterinary care immediately.
  • Regular Dental Visits: Regular dental checkups help keep your pet’s mouth healthy by detecting problems early on.

Gigi’s story is a great reminder of how important it is to pay attention to our pets’ dental health. Thanks to her quick-thinking owner and our dedicated team, Gigi is on the road to recovery and will soon be back to her playful self!
